DiaClean - Disinfectant for Hemodialysis Membrane
In hemodialysis, blood is removed from the body and filtered through a man-made membrane called dialyser. The dialysers are re-processed for several cycles after usage; the re-processing procedure involves filling and cleaning the dialyser with disinfectant.
The disinfectant however are equipment specific (different disinfectant for different haemodialysis machine) and to date there is no locally-manufactured disinfectant in the market. UMP has developed disinfectant which can be used in different dialysis equipments and is priced at competitive price.
The product namely “Diaclean” is invented by Prof. Dato’ Dr. Zularisam bin Ab Wahid from Faculty of Engineering Technology, Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP). Diclean is commercialized through UMP Renal Care Sdn Bhd, a spin-off company of UMP.
The inventor has received grant under Ministry of Education (MoE) Knowledge Transfer Programme which enable UMP to engage directly with PHIM to transfer the knowledge in handling the recycle of dialyser.
Diaclean has been tested on field and has shown encouraging results. UMP and UMP Renal Care Sdn Bhd are putting their best effort to market the product. As of now, the product is under testing for registration under Medical Device Act (MDA) to enable wider penetration in the market.
